Well it's finally happening, I'm moving to China. Yep, China. In less than in a month I will be moving 6,311 miles away from everyone I know and love to Tangshan, China. I will be an English teacher at the Da Mu Zhi Kindergarten with my old co-worker and buddy Eric.
Why am I doing this? I firmly believe if someone has a chance to travel abroad they should. This is first chance I have ever truly had the chance to go overseas. Although, I am nervous about leaving everything I am familiar with, I believe I would be doing myself an injustice if I did not take this opportunity. I also believe I have been selling myself short in my career. I thought hospitality was where I wanted to be, but after the last couple years in the industry, I cannot wait to get out! I never really thought about being a teaching before (I am not even good at English, I just know how to speak it!), but after volunteer tutoring earlier this year. I decided I wanted to something much more meaningful with my life. I also thought I would be at a different place in my life than where I am. A lot of my friends are married, having kids, settling down. I know one day that will be me, but right now I am at a place where I feel so blessed to have certain things happen in my life when they did to allow for this opportunity. I have no idea if I will be any good at any of this, but if I succeed, flourish, or fail, I can say I did it.
All that being said, I will be blogging the next year (or more) of my life in China. The good, bad, ugly, and weird begins behind the Great Wall Sept. 10th.....
